The Walther PDP is an amazing little handgun…
It basically takes all the great features of previous generations of Walther pistols, and upgrades them to give you a handgun that can handle any task…
One of those upgrades is the inclusion of an optic cut right from the factory, but that begs the question… What is the best red dot for the Walther PDP?
That’s a great question, and this article will be answering it by giving you my list of the 6 best Walther PDP red dot sights…
In the end, you’ll have a solid understanding of some of the best red dot sights that are currently available…
And you should have all the information you need to determine which is going to work best for you…
Let’s get started!
*Important Note: Each Walther PDP pistol includes a free optic plate in the purchase. So, after deciding on your choice of Red Dot, go to their Website, Walther Arms Optic Plate Request, and choose your mounting kit. Alternatively, give them a call at 479-242-8500. But, first, let me help you decide on the best red dot for your Walther PDP.
Best Red Dot For The Walther PDP – Top 6 List…
The best red dot for the Walther PDP is the Trijicon RMR Type 2. It’s the best because it has an extremely robust sight housing (that sets the standard for pistol optics), 4 years of battery life, improved internal electronics over the Type 1, and it can be had in a number of different reticle options…
Below, I’ll give you more detail explaining why I think the RMR type 2 is the best Walther PDP red dot sight…
And I’ll also share with you 5 other amazing options that you should consider.
1. The Trijicon RMR Type 2 (Best Walther PDP Red Dot!)
First on my list is the Trijicon RMR Type 2, and it’s the best Walther PDP red dot for several reasons. First of all, RMR actually stands for ‘Ruggedized Miniature Reflex Sight’ and it’s pretty much the gold standard for pistol optics when it comes to durability and reliability…
It features a forged Aluminum housing which has Trijicon’s patented ‘owl ear’ top, and that top gives you extra protection where you really need it (just over the lens)…
On top of that, the RMR is also shockproof and waterproof in up to 20 meters of water (or 60 feet), which is an incredible waterproof rating for a little pistol optic…
And the Type 2 is designed specifically to handle the abuse of being mounted on a pistol slide (unlike the RMR Type 1), so it can easily handle the recoil from the Walther PDP…
In addition to that, the RMR can be had in a number of different models and in a number of different reticle sizes. The two most popular options are definitely the 3.25 MOA dot model and the 6.5 MOA dot model…
And out of the two, my favorite is the 3.25 MOA model because the dot is very easy and quick for your eye to pick up, but at the same time it’s fairly small and gives you a very precise aiming point to make accurate shots…
The RMR also runs on 1 CR2032 battery which will last you for around 4 years (which is great battery life!), and you get 8 brightness settings including an extra bright setting for super bright conditions and 2 NV settings if you want to use your RMR will night vision equipment…
Last, the RMR footprint is the most common footprint in use today when it comes to pistol optics, and because you can request an adapter plate from Walther, you can easily mount the RMR on your PDP without any hassles…
So all in all, the RMR is still the king of handgun red dots because of it’s legendary durability and reliability, and it’s an amazing optic for the Walther PDP because it gives you great battery life and the ability to choose which reticle size will work best for you.

2. The Holosun 508T X2
A very close number 2 on my list, is the Holosun 508T X2, and like the RMR, it’s an insanely durable little red dot sight. To begin, the “T” actually stands for titanium, and that’s the material used to construct the sight housing on this optic, which makes it super strong…
It also features a flat top, which Holosun has found to be a little more impact resistant than their round top designs, and it’s also IP67 waterproof, which means it’ll easily handle rain and snow…
When it comes to the reticle, you get Holosun’s Multiple Reticle System (MRS) which means you have 3 reticle options programed into the sight. The 3 reticle options include a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, and a combination of the two, the Holosun Circle Dot Reticle…
Out of the 3, my favorite is the Circle Dot Reticle because it helps you shoot super fast and accurate at the same time. In addition to that, you get 50,000 hours of battery life (on setting 6) with 1 CR1632 battery, and you also get Holosun’s Shake Awake Technology (which will help you save even more battery life), the Solar Failsafe (so you can use your sight even without a battery), and a side loading battery tray to make battery changes fast and easy when the time comes…
The 508T also features 10 daylight brightness settings which get extremely bright on the high end and 2 NV settings which can be used along with Night Vision equipment…
Last, the 508T features the same footprint as the Trijicon RMR, and when you request an adapter plate from Walther, you’ll be able to quickly and easily mount the 508T on your PDP…
So all in all, the 508T is a super durable optic that is packed with tons of useful features, and it’d be a great little optic to pair with the Walther PDP.
The Holosun 508T X2 Features And Benefits
Titanium housing | Extra Durability |
Solar failsafe | It helps when the battery runs out of power |
Shake awake | Saves battery power |
12 Brightness settings | Adjust to any light condition |
Lock mode | Locks the buttons to prevent setting changes |

3. The Trijicon SRO
Number 3 on the list is the Trijicon SRO, and there are a number reasons why it’s a fantastic optic for the Walther PDP. To begin, SRO stands for “Specialized Reflex Optic”, and this sight was designed with a slightly different emphasis than my number 1 pick, the Trijicon RMR…
You see, the RMR is built to give you maximum durability, and even though the SRO is also a very durable sight (it has a 7075 T6 Aluminum sight housing and is waterproof in up to 10 feet of water), it’s primary focus is to give you an edge when you’re performance shooting (in other words, it helps you shoot faster and more accurately)…
One of the ways it does this is by giving you a HUGE sight window. You can really see a lot when looking through the SRO, and that helps you track your dot quicker and then shoot faster…
On top of that, you can get the SRO in several different reticle versions including a 1 MOA dot model, a 2.5 MOA dot model, and a 5 MOA dot model. My favorite option of the 3 is the 2.5 MOA model because I think it gives you the best balance of speed and precision when shooting, but all of the options work well…
Aside from that, the SRO runs on 1 CR2032 battery which gives you around 3 years worth of battery life, and because you have a top loading battery, you can quickly and easily change out your battery without any hassles when it comes time to do so…
Last, the SRO features the same foot print as the RMR which, again, is great because it’s the most common pistol optic footprint, and you can easily request an adapter plate from Walther and get it mounted on your PDP.
The Trijicon SRO Features And Benefits
Large window | Bigger view for quick target engagement |
Ambidextrous brightness control | Caters to the left- or right-handed shooters |
Eight Brightness settings | Including two NV-compatible settings |
2.0 MOA Dot | For more accurate shooting |
Multi-coated lenses | For more crisp and clear views |
Capless lens design | Using sub-flush adjusters |

4. The Holosun HE509T X2
Number 4 on the list is another Holosun, and it’s the HE509T X2. Just like with the 508T, the “T” signifies the Titanium housing which makes this sight extremely durable and rugged…
On top of that, it’s also IP67 Waterproof, so it’ll easily handle any wet conditions, but the major difference between the 509T and every other optic on this list is that it’s an enclosed emitter pistol red dot…
You see, the emitter is what projects the reticle on the lens, and on most pistol red dots, the emitter is exposed, which means you can potentially get mud or debris on it, and your dot will stop appearing. But having the emitter enclosed in two lenses (the same way most rifle red dots work), eliminates that from ever happening…
Now, aside from the enclosed emitter, the 509T is very similar to the 508T that I mentioned earlier. You still get the Holosun Mulitple Reticle System with 3 reticle options, and you also get the 50,000 hours of battery life, the Shake Awake technology, the Solar Panel, and the easy to use side-loading battery tray…
The one other major difference is that the footprint that you get on the 509T is a proprietary footprint (not like the RMR). But the good news is that Walther does have a 509T plate which you can request from their website…
Once you have that plate, you’ll be able to easily mount the 509T onto your Walther, and you’ll have one of the toughest enclosed pistol optics on your PDP helping you make fast and accurate shots.
The Holosun HE509T Features And Benefits
Enclosed optical Red Dot sight | Protection against debris and fog |
Titanium housing | Super durability |
Multi-Reticle system | Three choices between the dot or circle or both |
Shake Awake feature | A motion sensor will wake up the device |
Solar Failsafe feature | Will provide power when the battery dies |

5. The Holosun 507C X2 (Great Budget Option!)
Alright, I’m sure you’ve noticed that this is the 3rd Holosun on my list. I can’t help it, I love Holosun’s red dots because they are packed with useful features, and usually come in at a very reasonable price. And that’s exactly the case with the 507C X2…
Now, the 507C is very similar to the 508T that I mentioned earlier, but one of the major differences is that the sight housing is made from 7075 T6 Aluminum rather than Titanium. Keep in mind that 7075 T6 Aluminum is a very strong and lightweight material, and the 507C has definitely built it’s own reputation for ruggedness and reliability over the years…
Another differences is that the 507C has a rounded top rather than a square top. Again, the square top on the 508T is a little bit tougher, but when you look at the 507C’s lens shroud, you can see that it is very beefy and gives you a lot of protection over your sight’s lens…
Aside from that, most of the other features on the 507C are exactly the same as the 508T, which is awesome! It’s still IP67 waterproof, and you get Holosun’s Multiple Reticle System (so 3 awesome reticle choices)…
And you also get 50,000 hours of battery life, Holosun’s Shake Awake technology, a Solar Panel, and a convenient side loading battery tray to make battery changes fast and easy…
Last, the footprint that you get on the 507C is (once again) the RMR footprint, which is great because you can request an adapter plate from Walther and then easily mount it onto your PDP…
So all in all, the 507C is another fantastic pistol red dot from Holosun, and its a great option if you like the features of the 508T or the RMR but would like to save a little bit of money.
The Holosun 507C X2 Features And Benefits
Multi-coating lens | For protection and durability |
Magnification | The 1x magnification for clearer vision |
Multiple reticle system | Choose a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, or Circle Dot Reticle |
Solar Failsafe | Backup power when the battery dies |
Shake Awake technology | The device will enter sleep mode when not in use |

6. The Crimson Trace RAD Pro (Great Budget Option!)
The Crimson Trace Rad Pro is the last option on my list, and its actually an amazing budget optic for several reasons. First of all, it’s built to be durable…
It has an Aluminum sight housing which has angles built into it that are designed to give the sight extra impact resistance. On top of that, it’s IPX7 waterproof, so it’ll easily handle rain or snow, and it’s also shockproof and fog proof…
The reticle that you get is a 3 MOA dot, which will help you shoot fast and accurately, and the sight window is fairly clear giving you a nice clean sight picture when you’re shooting…
On top of that, the RAD Pro also gives you excellent battery life at around 20,000 hours using 1 CR1632 battery, and it also features an auto on/off feature which will save you battery life when you’re sight is not in use…
And when it comes time to change your battery, you also get a top access battery compartment, which will make swapping out your battery very quick and easy…
Last, the RAD Pro features the Doctor footprint, which is a fairly common pistol optic footprint, and you can easily mount it on to your PDP by requesting an adapter plate from Walther.
The Crimson Trace RAD Pro Features And Benefits

I can’t seem to get the Red Dot Page to submit. What I need is a foot plate for a vortex razor. This generation 2 vortex razor plate also fits the Siightron sts2 that I own. Can you be of assistance?
Hi John, here is one I found. It says it works with the C-more footprint and the Razor. I hope this helps!
