Best Ruger 57 Red Dot [Top 8 List]…

/ by
ruger 57 red dot

There aren’t many firearms that are chambered in the 5.7x28mm cartridge…

And that’s a shame because it’s a very interesting cartridge for several reasons…

The Ruger 57 is only the second handgun I can think of that is chambered for this round, and I have to say, Ruger did a great job designing this gun because it’s fun to shoot, low-recoiling, accurate and reliable…

In addition to that, Ruger actually made it very easy to mount an optic on your 57 (even without the addition of an optic cut)…

And in this article, we’re going to address questions like… What is the best Ruger 57 red dot? And how do you mount a red dot on the 57?

So if you’re interested in putting a red dot sight on your Ruger 57, you’ve come to the right place…

And by the end, you’ll have all the information you need to determine which red dot is going to be best for you, and you’ll know exactly how to mount it…

Let’s get started!

Ruger 57 Red Dot – Top 8 List…

The best Ruger 57 red dot is the Trijicon RMR. The reason why is because it’s an extremely rugged and reliable red dot sight. It also has ultra-long battery life and multiple reticle options, and it can easily be mounted on the Ruger 57 with the use of an adapter plate…

The following list will give you more information on why the Trijicon RMR makes such a good pair with the Ruger 57, and I’ll also give you 7 other fantastic red dots that you can consider for your gun…

1. Trijicon RMR Type 2 (My #1 Pick!)

ruger 57 optic ready

As I said earlier, I think the Trijicon RMR Type 2 is the best red dot for the Ruger 57 handgun, and the reason why is simple… It’s the best optic for any handgun that’s currently on the market…

RMR actually stands for ‘Ruggedized Miniature Reflex’ sight, and Trijicon designed it to be a super-small optic that maintains an extremely high level of toughness. Now, the RMR has a sight housing that’s made from forged aluminum, and it’s designed with Trijicon’s patented ‘square-top’ design which makes the sight more durable and impact-resistant…

It’s also waterproof in up to 66 feet of water, gives you ultra-long battery life (around 4 years worth on setting 4), and because it’s the Type 2 version, it has upgraded electronics that make it extremely reliable when mounted on a handgun slide (the Type 1’s were designed for use on rifles and had some problems when mounted on handguns)…

In addition to that, the RMR comes in several different versions that give you a different reticle dot size. The two most common versions are the 3.25 MOA dot version and the 6.5 MOA dot version. Of the two, I prefer the 3.25 MOA dot version because I find that a smaller dot is typically just as easy to see as a larger dot, but offers you more precision when aiming…

Now to get any of these optics onto your Ruger 57, you simply need an adapter mount that attaches to the top of your slide with two screws (This is a high-quality adapter mount that you can use). But all in all, I think the Trijicon RMR is a fantastic optic for your Ruger 57 because it’s super tough, reliable, has long battery life, and has a good-sized reticle.

2. Holosun HE508T-X2

ruger 57 holosun

Another amazing red dot sight that you should consider for your Ruger 57 is the Holosun 508T X2. I love Holosun optics because they are jam-packed with useful features and they’re priced pretty reasonably…

And that’s certainly the case with the Holosun 508T which I think rivals the Trijicon RMR when it comes to toughness. For starters, the ‘T’ in 508T actually stands for titanium, which is what the sight housing of this optic is made from. That means it’s extremely strong while, at the same time, being incredibly lightweight. It also has a ‘square top’ design that Holosun has found to be stronger than a round top design, and it’s waterproof in up to 1 meter of water…

The 508T also comes with Holosun’s Multiple Reticle System which gives you 3 reticles choices on your sight including: a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, and the famous Holosun Circle Dot Reticle, which is my favorite because it helps you shoot fast and accurately at the same time. On top of that, the 508T has ultra-long battery life (around 50,000 hours on setting 6), Shake Awake technology (which helps save your battery life), a Solar Panel (which you can use to save even more battery life), and a side-access battery tray…

And that battery tray means that you can swap out batteries on your 508T quickly and easily without the need to remove the optic from your slide. That’s something you’ll have to do if you go with the Trijicon RMR (one of its very few downsides), and it’s an area where the 508T shines. The last thing to mention is that you will need an adapter plate to mount the Holosun 508T on your Ruger 57 (you can get one right here), and I think it would make a wonderful optic for this Ruger handgun design because it’s tough, reliable, and loaded with cool features.

3. Trijicon SRO

ruger 57 sight plate

The Trijicon SRO is another miniature red dot sight that would be a fantastic fit for the Ruger 57. Now, I know I’ve already shown you an optic from Trijicon with the RMR, but the SRO is a little different in a few key areas…

First of all, SRO stands for ‘Specialized Reflex Optic’ and one of its greatest features is the huge sight window that it gives you. This allows you to have a greater field of view when looking through the optic, and seeing more is always a good thing when it comes to shooting accurately and fast. Now having that large sight window, does sacrifice a little bit of durability with the SRO, but it’s still a Trijicon optic, which means it’s going to be plenty durable for most applications…

For example, its sight housing is made from 7075-T6 Aluminum, and it’s waterproof in up to 10 feet of water. On top of the huge sight window, the lens is very clear on the SRO, and you can choose between multiple versions that feature different dot reticle sizes including: a 2.5 MOA dot, a 5 MOA dot, or a 1 MOA dot…

I like my reticles to be somewhere in the 2-3.5 MOA range because I find them to be very easy for your eye to pick up and still extremely precise when aiming, but it’s good that Trijicon offers various versions because some people have different dot size preferences. Last, just like with all other red dots on this list, you will need an adapter to mount this optic on your Ruger 57 (you can get one here), but I think the SRO is a great red dot for any handgun because it’s tough, reliable, and has a massive sight window.

4. Holosun HS507C-X2

green dot sight for ruger 57

I get accused of being a Holosun fanboy all the time, and you know what… I am! Holosun makes high-quality red dots that are loaded with features and that still come in at a reasonable price, and the Holosun 507C is by-far their most popular pistol optic…

There are many reasons why you should consider the 507C as a contender for a place on your Ruger 57. For starters, the 507C is very similar to the 508T, but instead of being constructed from titanium, its sight housing is made from 7075-T6 Aluminum (which is still a very durable material). It’s also waterproof in up to 1 meter of water, and even though it’s probably a bit less rugged than the RMR and the 508T, the 507C has a reputation and a long track record for toughness and reliability…

It also has the Holosun Mulitple Reticle System which means you get 3 reticles programmed into it including a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA circle, and the Holosun Circle Dot Reticle (which, again, is my favorite because it makes it so easy to shoot fast and accurately). And it also has ultra-long battery life (around 50,000 hours on setting 6), a Solar Panel to save your battery life (or use without a battery), and a battery tray that makes battery changes quick, simple, and fast…

Last, it can be easily mounted onto the Ruger 57 with the use of an adapter plate (here’s where you can get one), and because it’s made from Aluminum rather than Titanium, it’s a less expensive option than the Holosun 508T. All in all, the Holosun 507C would make a fantastic red dot for the Ruger 57.

5. Leupold Delta Point Pro

Another legendary handgun optic that would be a great companion for the Ruger 57 is the Leupold Delta Point Pro. First of all, the Delta Point Pro is built for rugged use. Its sight housing is made from a high-quality aluminum and the sight window features a spring steel shroud for extra protection…

It’s also waterproof in up to 33 feet of water, and similarly to the Trijicon SRO, the Delta Point Pro features a huge sight window, which as I mentioned before gives you a larger field of view when you’re shooting. The battery life on the Delta Point Pro is 300 hours, which is not nearly as high as some of the other optics on this list, but battery changes are very quick and easy because of the spring-actuated battery compartment. It’s located on top of the Delta Point Pro’s sight housing, so you won’t have to remove the sight from your gun’s slide for battery changes either…

Last, the reticle on the Delta Point Pro is 2.5 MOA (minute of angle) which is perfect for me, and as with all the other optics on this list it can be easily mounted on the Ruger 57 slide with the use of an adapter plate (you can get one here). If you don’t mind the battery life, the Delta Point Pro is a very rugged red dot that gives you a huge sight window to aim through.

6. Sig Sauer Romeo 3XL

sig romeo for ruger 57

Many people might not realize it, but Sig Sauer actually makes some pretty cool red dot sights, and one of their best handgun optics is definitely the Romeo 3XL. The sight would go well with your Ruger 57 for a number of reasons…

To begin, the sight housing on the Romeo 3XL is made from aircraft-grade aluminum, and it’s waterproof in up to 1 meter of water. So it’s a pretty durable optic. In addition to that, it gives you 25,000 hours of battery life, and it features Sig’s MOTAC technology which stands for ‘Motion Activated Illumination’ and basically saves you battery life by automatically turning off when the sight is not in use and automatically turning on when the sight senses motion…

One of the biggest benefits that the Romeo 3XL has to offer is the enormous sight window. Some describe it by saying it’s like looking through a windshield, and it gives you a massive field of view when you’re trying to take aim. Last, you can get the Romeo 3XL with either a 3 MOA dot reticle or a 6 MOA dot reticle (I prefer the 3 MOA dot), and it can easily be mounted onto your Ruger 57 with the use of an adapter plate (you can get one here). All in all, the Sig Sauer Romeo XL is not a red dot that a lot of people talk about, but it’s a fantastic little handgun optic.

7. Vortex Venom

ruger 57 red dot vortex

Vortex is another manufacturer that is known for making high-quality optics that are competitively priced, and one of their most popular handgun optics is the Vortex Venom…

The Vortex Venom would be a good little red dot for the Ruger 57 for a number of reasons. Even though it’s not the toughest optic on this list, it is still durable enough to be used for most applications. It features an aluminum sight housing, and it’s waterproof in up to 1 meter of water. It’s also shockproof and fogproof, and as long as it’s not taking heavy impacts (such as being dropped), it should hold up just fine…

It also has a fairly long battery life of up to 30,000 hours on the low settings, and battery changes are quick, easy, and don’t require you to remove the optic from your gun’s slide because of a top-access battery compartment. The Venom also has two different MOA dot size versions, the 3 MOA dot reticle version and the 6 MOA dot reticle version, and as you know by now, I prefer the 3 MOA dot version because I find it easy to pick up and very precise when I need to focus on accurate shots…

Last, Ruger actually makes a factory adapter plate for the Vortex Venom (you can find it here), and for a long time, it was one of the only red dots that you could mount on the Ruger 57. So it deserves a place on this list, and because it’s kind of a budget optic, I think it’s still a good option.

8. Crimson Trace RAD Pro

ruger 57 burris fastfire 3

The Crimson Trace RAD Pro is a very exciting handgun optic. As of the time I’m writing this, it’s a fairly new optic on the market, and it’s already getting a lot of fanfare. I think it’s going to become an extremely popular red dot sight, and I think there are several reasons why it would make a fantastic optic for the Ruger 57…

To begin, the RAD Pro is built to be rugged and reliable. It has a sight housing that’s constructed from 7075 Aluminum, and it has a square-top shape with specific angles that are designed to make the optic very impact resistant. It’s also waterproof in up to one meter of water, and I just think it’s really freakin’ cool looking…

Additionally, its also shockproof, fogproof, and vibration resistant, and it has super long battery life (around 40,000 hours). On top of that, the RAD Pro has a top-access battery compartment, so that you won’t have to remove the optic from your Ruger’s slide when the time for a battery change does come…

Last, the RAD Pro has an auto-sleep function which will help you save battery life, and it can easily be mounted onto the Ruger 57 with the use of an adapter plate (you can get one right here). All in all, I think there’s a very bright future ahead for the RAD Pro red dot, and I also think it would be a high-performing optic for the Ruger 57.
