So, you’re looking for a rock-solid red dot sight…
…but you’re also into saving money?
Awesome! I’m exactly the same way…
And because of that, I’m really excited to bring you this Sig Romeo 5 Review…
In short, this red dot is pretty amazing… It’s super durable. It has really long battery life. And it had an auto on/auto off feature. It just performs really well at a pretty low price tag. I think it’s a great red dot sight.

That said, this is going to be a very in-depth review and we’re going to go over all of the Romeo 5’s main features:
- Durability
- Battery Life (Plus Motion Activated Illumination!)
- Reticle
- Clarity
When we’re done, you’ll have a good idea of what you’re gonna get when you purchase this optic…
Spoiler Alert! You’ll be pretty happy… haha!
Ok, enough goofing around… Let’s jump into the review.
Durability Of This Red Dot Sight…
The Sig Sauer Romeo 5 is an incredibly durable sight. To start off with, it’s waterproof up to 1 meter…
To me, that’s perfect because if I get caught shooting in the rain…
…I can be confident that this sight is going to keep working for me with no problems whatsoever.
It’s also fog proof and seems to be resistant to shock…
…and I’ve never seen any issues with it losing zero even if it’s been knocked around a little bit.
That matters for me because even though I don’t abuse my guns, I usually don’t baby them either.
Now on a side note, I have seen some extensive torture tests done on the Romeo 5 which were really impressive because the sight was able to withstand some pretty intense abuse…
We’re talking about being left outside and frozen in a block of ice type stuff… and it kept working.

I’ve never done that type of torture testing with my own Romeo 5…
…but I do feel confident that it is a very durable sight and it can handle anything I put it through without any problems.
Sig Romeo 5 Battery Life…
The battery life of the Sig Romeo5 is outstanding…
It’s powered by one CR2032 battery which comes included when you buy the site.
That little battery packs this optic with 50,000 plus hours a battery life…
…and in addition to that, Sig included something called MOTAC which stands for ‘Motion Activated Illumination’.
Basically, it means that the sight will automatically turn on when it senses motion…
…and automatically turn off after about 120 seconds of nonuse.
This is a really cool feature because it will save you even more battery life.
Just think about it… You can keep your sight turned off and when you pick up your rifle it automatically turns on and is ready to go!
Plus, you don’t have to worry about switching it off because it will automatically turn off when it’s not being used.
I really love this feature… mostly because your rifle is always ready for action, and even though some of the Romeo 5’s competitors also have this feature…
…I’m really glad Sig included it on this optic.
If you think about it, all red dots should at least have an option to include this feature, and I think this is one thing that sets the Romeo 5 apart from some of the other high-value red dot sights (check out my Sig Sauer Romeo 5 vs Holosun comparison).
Another thing I like about the design of this sight is that it’s easy to change out batteries…
You simply unscrew the cap on the side, insert your CR2032 battery, and screw it back down.
Simple… Quick… and Easy.
It can be done in seconds, and I think it’s superior to some other systems that require you to use a special tool to get to the battery…
…or that require you to completely unmount your optic from the rifle.
Reticle And Sight Clarity…
The reticle and lens clarity are also very impressive on the Romeo 5.
To start off with, you’ve got a simple 2 MOA dot.
I love having a 2 MOA dot on my red dots because…
…I’ve found it to be fast and accurate when I’m acquiring targets with my rifles.
I’ve always preferred having a smaller MOA dot like 2 MOA over something like a 6, 7, or 8 MOA dot.
With a smaller dot, you’re able to take aim with a lot more precision because larger dots tend to cover up too much of the target.
Now there are 10 brightness settings that you can switch between on this sight and that includes 8 for different daylight conditions and 2 night vision settings.
When you zero your Sig Romeo 5, the adjustments move in 0.5 MOA increments, which I think is definitely precise enough for a red dot sight.
And on top of all that, the lens clarity is crystal clear and because it’s a zero magnification red dot sight, you’ve got unlimited eye relief.
Extra Goodies Included With This Red Dot…
The Sig Romeo5 also comes with some cool extra goodies…
Like I mentioned before a CR2032 battery is included with this sight when you purchase it.
Aside from that, you also get the following:
- A lens cleaning cloth
- A bikini cap cover
- A hex wrench tool (helping you mount it)
- A low mount
- A high mount
The low mount makes this optic ideal for mounting on:
- shotguns
- pistol caliber carbines
- crossbows
- and some rifles
But the high mount makes this a perfect red dot for an AR-15.
It puts the sight at 1.41 inches high, which gives you an absolute co-witness if you’re running back up iron sights.
I have mine mounted on one of my AR-15’s with the high mount and I love it.
Pros And Cons Of The Sig Romeo 5…
Pros…
- Incredibly Durable
- Waterproof
- Ultra long battery life
- Turns on when it senses motion
- Turns off on its own
- Low mount included
- High mount included
- Great Price!
Cons…
- Some people criticize the durability of the included mounts. (They can be upgraded if you feel the need, but I’m perfectly happy with them.)
Sig Romeo 5 Review – Conclusions…
In the end, I think the Sig Romeo 5 is one of the best red dot sights for the money because:
- It’s tough
- It has long battery life
- It has that cool MOTAC feature (so it turns on when you need it)
Aside from that, it’s got a fantastic price, and because it has a high and low mount included, it’s ready to go as soon as the package arrives at your door!
